FAQ’s
The whotube.com website functions like other websites and navigating through the pages is an easy thing to do. Listed below are some questions that relate to special functions on the website. If your question is not addressed here feel free to send your question to us at info@ whotube.com.
PRIVACY
We anticipate that the majority of business users to this site will be small business operators. The Privacy Act generally concerns large businesses and government organisations that collect personal information about people.
The Australian Government Office of the Australian Information Commissioner states in its FAQs;
‘I operate a small business. How do I know if I am covered by the Privacy Act?
Generally speaking, most small businesses will not have to comply with the Privacy Act. A small business with an annual turnover of $3 million or less will have to comply with the Privacy Act only if it is:
- a health service provider; or
- trading in personal information (e.g. buying or selling a mailing list); or
- related to a business that is not a small business; or
- a contractor that provides services under a Commonwealth contract; or
- a reporting entity for the purposes of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act); or
- an operator of a residential tenancy database.’
Q. Can I place my cctv footage of an incident that occurred in my store (or out the
front in a public place) on the internet?
A. Yes, providing it does not breach any privacy laws or other Commonwealth,
or State or Territory laws. Whotube signage, posters and stickers, helps
you convey your intention to post footage of any wrong doing on the internet.
See what is on offer at the CCTV warning sign link at the bottom of each page.
Q. How do I know if I am breaching any law?
A. The nature of the footage whotube allows a business to upload in accordance
with our terms and conditions is NOT in breach of existing Australian laws.
If you are concerned it is best to seek professional legal advice. Ask yourself
whether you are posting any footage that is not already published in other forms
of media. Consider the news media filming an accused person, naming them and
the town they live in, filming their relatives leaving a court, naming the offence
they are accused of BEFORE they are convicted of any offence.
Q. What if I make a mistake and upload something that is in breach of the privacy
laws?
A. Generally, the first course of action for any person with any complaint is to
complain to the media to have the material removed. Whotube will investigate
and remove material should any complaint be sustained. In most circumstances
once that materiel is removed the matter is finalised. Whotube will notify the
source of the material so that a similar incident is not repeated.

FOOTAGE UPLOAD
Q. How long does it take to upload a file?
A. Depending on your connection speed, a file can take anywhere from a few minutes

connection you can expect a file to take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes for each

Q. The footage I have won’t upload?
A. To upload footage you need to be registered as a business. Footage needs to be less

formats. On occasions the upload will ‘hang’ and you should make another attempt to
upload the file. For other problems contact us at info@whotube.com for advice.
Q. My footage is not in one of these formats.
A. Most CCTV recording systems save footage in the aforementioned formats. You could
try saving them again and set your program to save in one of these formats, or, you
could use one of many available file converters that are obtained free on the internet.
Type ‘file converter’ or ‘convert to .avi’ etc. into your web search engine and there will
be a list of file converters to choose from.
Q. How do I create stills from my footage?
A. Most CCTV recording systems are able to capture stills as well as all or parts of the

being free to expensive depending on the complexity of the editing you want to do.
‘Jing’ is a simple to use program that is free to obtain from the internet and during the
upload process there is a link to ‘Jing’ and how to use it. ‘Jing’ enables you to capture
stills and to include arrows and text boxes to highlight certain parts of your footage.
